Design & Character Hotels

Boutique Hotels

Nigeria's boutique scene is almost entirely Ikoyi, Lagos. Four properties worth knowing.

Boutique hotels in Nigeria means Ikoyi, Lagos. The neighbourhood offers a quieter residential feel compared to Victoria Island's commercial noise, with both main properties close enough for a Bolt to any VI meeting.

01
The Wheatbaker
From ~$120/night

4 Lawrence Road, Ikoyi, Lagos

Lagos's most respected boutique property. Art throughout, a serious restaurant (Signatures), compact pool terrace. Rates from $120 per night. Quieter and more considered than anything on Victoria Island.

02
The George
From ~$100/night

30 Lugard Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos

Larger rooms than The Wheatbaker, strong pool, walking distance to Ikoyi Park and Jazz Hole. Rates from $100 per night. The more relaxed of the two Ikoyi properties. Works well for stays of three or more nights.

03

04
Casa Lydia Boutique Hotel
From ~$70/night

Calabar, Cross River State

The standout boutique option outside Lagos. Well-maintained, good estate security, rates from $70 per night. One of the few properties in the south-south with genuine character.

The Wheatbaker books out 4–6 weeks ahead, particularly on weekends. The George has more availability.

🌿Nature & Conservation

Eco Lodges & Nature Stays

Four properties worth the distance. Obudu at 1,576m, Yankari with elephants at the door, and Cross River's gorilla country.

Nigeria's eco-lodge options are few but exceptional. Obudu Mountain Resort sits at 1,576m with a cable car as the only access route, cool temperatures year-round, and direct views into Cameroon, from $80 per night.

01
Obudu Mountain Resort (Obudu Ranch)
From ~$80/night

Obudu LGA, Cross River State

Cable car access only – it is not optional and it is the experience. Chalets at 1,576m, rates from $80 per night. Cool enough for blankets year-round, cattle grazing on the plateau, unobstructed views into Cameroon.
